What is the CIR in the Aosta Valley?
The CIR (codice identificativo regionale, regional identification code) is the code the municipality issues for every tourist accommodation, in the format "Alloggio ad uso turistico - VDA - Municipality name - n. 0000", as set out in Regional Law no. 11 of 18 July 2023 (in Italian). It must be shown clearly in every listing and in any tool used to promote the property.
The obligation to display it also applies to anyone advertising or selling the property on the owner's behalf, on any channel, including managers and booking platforms.
How do you apply for the CIR in the Aosta Valley?
The CIR is obtained online through the regional "Locazioni turistiche" platform, by submitting a declaration to the municipality before you start renting. After the declaration the municipality issues the code, which you then use to apply for the CIN, as the Region's page on tourist rentals explains (in Italian).
- Log in to the Locazioni turistiche platform.
- Fill in the declaration for the property, with the property and owner details.
- Receive the CIR from the municipality and add it to all your listings.
- Apply for the CIN on the Ministry of Tourism's national BDSR database.
- Complete the ongoing requirements: guest registration, ISTAT reporting, tourist tax.
For problems with the platform, the Region lists its contact centre at 800.61.00.61, Monday to Friday 8:00–18:00 and Saturday 8:00–12:00.
What is the difference between CIN and CIR, and which comes first?
In the Aosta Valley you apply for the regional CIR first and then for the national CIN on the Ministry of Tourism's BDSR database. The CIN does not replace the regional code: the Ministry of Tourism states that regional codes and their display obligations remain valid.
The CIN must also appear in short-term rental listings, as explained in this guide to the CIN (in Italian), which cites the law that introduced it (art. 13-ter of Decree-Law 145/2023). For a property in the Aosta Valley, both codes therefore appear in listings.
| CIR | CIN | |
|---|---|---|
| Issued by | The municipality, via the regional platform | The Ministry of Tourism, via the BDSR |
| When | Before you start renting | After obtaining the CIR |
| Where to show it | In every listing and promotional tool | In short-term rental listings |
| Does it replace the other? | No | No |
Do you need a CIR for rentals longer than 30 days?
Yes, but only to obtain the CIN: for tourist rentals longer than 30 consecutive days, the Region still requires the CIR solely for the purpose of obtaining the CIN on the BDSR. The regional law on short-term rentals, by contrast, covers stays of up to 30 days.
If you alternate short stays and longer periods, it is worth setting up the application with both in mind from the start.
Can a property manager handle it on the owner's behalf?
Yes: the Region provides a power-of-attorney form for individuals and one for companies, which can also be downloaded from the platform. With the power of attorney the manager submits the application, but the property data and declarations remain the owner's responsibility.
With Vesta it goes one step further: we register the CIR and CIN in Vesta's name, so we are responsible for every filing. If a requirement were missed or done wrong, any fine would fall on Vesta, not on the owner. We handle all paperwork and compliance (CIR, CIN, guest registration, ISTAT reporting and tourist tax) in Cervinia, and we offer the same service in Valtournenche and Courmayeur.
How and when must guests be registered?
Guests must be registered with the police within 24 hours of arrival through the State Police Alloggiati service; if the stay is shorter than 24 hours, registration must be done on arrival. Guest nights must also be reported for ISTAT statistics.
For ISTAT reporting the Region lists a dedicated support contact: supporto.istat@regione.vda.it, phone 0165 275602.
